Stella Creswell, daughter of John and Elizabeth Milligan Creswell, was born at Bonaparte, Iowa, July 24, 1862. Here she spent her entire life which came peacefully to a close in the early morning of April 5, 1928. Failing health for several months had warned her family and friends that she would not have much longer to remain in this world, although she was acutely ill only a short time.

August 16, 1882, she was united in marriage with Mr. William Gilbert. To this union were born two children, a daughter, Zoe, who died in infancy; and a son, Harry C. Gilbert, who survives her. She is also survived by one brother, Henry C. Creswell of Bonaparte; two nephews, Edward Colton of Danville, Ill., and James Colton of Farmington, Iowa; four nieces, Lelia Von Seggan of Bonaparte, Ethel King of Des Moines; Virgie Allen of Mt. Sterling, and Grace McNamar of Keosauqua; and a brother and sister-in-law, Eratus Colton of Farmington and Mrs. W. O. Thompson of Bonaparte. Her husband died August 2, 1887.

Mrs. Gilbert was a member and Past Matron of Magnolia Chapter No. 276, O. E. S. She was also a charter member of the Clair Sargeant Post 563, American Legion Auxiliary.

At an early age she united with the Presbyterian church of Bonaparte, and was especially devoted to the work of the Ladies Aid of that church. She was of a kindly, quiet disposition, finding her greatest enjoyment in her home. She will be sadly missed by her family and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Presbterian [sic] church on Friday afternoon at four o'clock, Rev. A. C. Droz officiating. Interment in Bonaparte cemetery.
