DEATH OF ARTHUR DAVIS
----------------
The subject of the following mortuary notice, which we take from the San Jose, California, Mercury-Herald, date of March 30, was a half-brother of Wash Davis, now of Des Moines and his widow is a sister of Herbert Gray of Milton:

George Arthur Davis, aged 60, an old and trusted employe of a local lumber company, passed away last evening after a long illness at his home on Broadway avenue near Coe. He had been a semi-invalid for several months, after a very active life, and his condition improved at times up to a couple of weeks ago, when he took a turn for the worse. The end came peacefully last evening with all of the members of his family at his bedside.

George A. Davis, better known as Arthur Davis, was born in Keosauqua, Van Buren county, Iowa, and there married Jennie Gray, sister of Frank Gray, engineer at Alum Rock park, this city. He followed farming in Van Buren county for several years, then disposed of her property there and came to this city more than 20 years ago. San Jose had been his home ever since.

Besides a widow he is survived by several children--Asa G., Roy C., Maud, Ethel and Eva Davis and Mrs. Della Russell.

The funeral arrangements have not been completed as yet, but will probably be held under the auspices of the Masonic order of which the deceased had been a member for many years.

(Photocopy of this obit is located on page 158 of Obit Book A found in the Van Buren County, IA Genealogical Society's collection at the Keosauqua Public Library in July 1999. Name of newspaper and date of obit not given. The print is the same as another obit from September 1915, however, actual date unknown.)

I am NOT related to George Arthur Davis and am posting his obit for those who may find him in their family history.
