LEWIS STEINHOFF, 82, DIES TUESDAY
Native Of Van Buren County Worked At Shoemaking Trade Here 54 Years.

Lewis Steinhoff, 82, dean of Ottumwa's shoemakers, died at his home, 101 North Moore street, Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Steinhoff, who began in the shoemaking trade about 60 years ago, had lived in Ottumwa for 54 years during which time he worked at his trade.

He was the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Steinhoff and was born in Van Buren county, February 17, 1885. He was a charter member of the Finley Avenue Baptist church. His sshoe shop was on Church street.

Surviving are his wife, Martha J.; two daughters, Mrs. Effie Cross and Mrs. Elsie Myers of Ottumwa; one son, Ross Steinhoff of Ottumwa; one sister, Mrs. Sophia Shields of Lynden, Wash., and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Walter.

Short funeral services will be held in Johnson's funeral chapel at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and at 3 p.m. in the Finley Avenue Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. John Hastle. Burial will be made in the Shaul cemetery.
