OBITUARY
William Stevens Ritchey

William Stevens Ritchey, son of ??es F. and Dorcas Ritchey was born in Ross county, Ohio, November 2, 1845, and departed this life January 6, 1934, being 88 years, 2 months and 4 days. He came to Iowa with his parents when a small boy. The family settled in Jefferson county near Wooster, later moved to farm on Big Cedar, near the iron bridge formerly know as Hall's Mill.

He grew to manhood, worked as a farm hand for his neighbors, worked for the Widow Charlotte Day (now deceased) for a number of years. He learned the carpenter trade in the days when they hewed the logs. He was an expert at framing heavy barn timber.

He made his home for many years at the John H. Webber home. He at one time drove an ox team across the plains for some parties as far as Salt Lake, returning home by stage. he joined the Christian church at Stockport in the nineties. He was good-hearted, always ready to help anyone in need.

He is the last one of his father's family. He leaves several nieces and nephews in Lucas county. He spent the last few years of his life in the Van Buren County Home. He was always of a robust nature (and the) last sickness was only of short (duration.)

A short service was conducted by Rev. Allison at the Spencer cemetery 3 1/2 miles northeast of Stockport Sunday at 2 p.m., Jan. 7, 1934.
