OBITUARY
**Handwritten: Keosauqua Rep. 26 May 1932

Mrs. J.S. Smith.

Amanda Henrietta Rhine, daughter of Samuel and Henrietta Rhine, was born in Southern Mo., Sept. 26, 1861. Coming to southeastern Iowa when but a small child, and where she has since lived. On Oct. 2, 1879 she was united in marriage to John Sec Smith by the Rev. A.W. Wiggins, at that time pastor of the M.P. church, at Mt. Zion. To this union were born seven children, five sons and two daughter, all living, namely, Mrs. Mary Smith, Glen, Chauncey, Floyd, of Cantril, Mrs. Daily Hall, of Fairfield, Stanley of Keosauqua and Harry, of Miner, Ill. The early part of their married life was spent in the Home Prairie neighborhood, where all her children were born, and moving to Keosauqua twenty-five years ago, where she has since made her home, and where she fell peacefully asleep, surrounded by her husband and children, at the age of seventy years, seven months and twenty days, Monday, May 16, 1932. Her death was the result of a complication of diseases, never seeming (..arming) until a week or more before her death. Mother Smith was ??? very quite nature, devoted to (her) home and children and where (she) will be sadly missed. On Oct. (2), 1930 they celebrated their (golden) Wedding at their home.

(For) over fifty-two years the circle ???ned unbroken. Besides her (husband) and her children there are ??e grandchildren, Madaline Daugherity, Lloyd, Edgar and Jack Smith, Raymond Smith, Lionel Smith, Delbert Elwood, and Keith Hall, Pauline, Josephine, and Mirian Smith.

Short funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday, at 1 P.M., after which regular services were held at the M.E. church, in Cantril, conducted by Rev. H.F. Gilbert, assisted by Rev. M.E. ???? of Keosauqua. The body was (tenderly) laid away in Cantril cemetery.
