Obituary of Charles Ruble

Charles Thomas Ruble, eldest son of Theodore and Catherine Ruble, was born at Croton, Lee county, Iowa, February 22, 1859, and passed away at his home at Des Moines, November 17, 1922, after an illness of less than a week with pneumonia.

February 17, 1888, he was married at Selma, Io., to Miss Minnie B. Downing of Leando, and they went to housekeeping Feb. 20, at Selma, and lived there five years. From there they moved to Bentonsport for over twenty years, then three years on their farm in Washington township. From there they went to Monroe, Iowa, and after being there for one years, located at Des Moines, which was their home at the time of his death.

To them two children were born, Mrs. Maude Purdy of Scranton, Iowa, and Max E. of Valley Junction, Io. These accompanied their mother with the remains to the final resting place, Bentonsport.

He was a consistent member of the M.E. church for twenty-eight years. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. The most of his life had been spent in the service of the Rock Island Railway Co. and he was justly proud of the record he made in that service, and was also equally proud of the fact that in his later years he belonged to the honor roll of that company, due to the fact that he had been pentioned for meritorious service. At the time of his death, he was in the employ of the Portland Hawkeye Cement Co. at Des Moines.

Charlie, as everyone called him, was a friend of all who knew him. He was an honest, industrious, upright citizen and his rather sudden taking off was a surprise and sorrow to all.

The body, accompanied by his widow, children and a number of relatives, was brought to the old home, Bentonsport, on Wednesday of last week, where funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at the Methodist church, by Rev. Arthur H. Adams of Valley Junction, assisted by Rev. G.W. Barber of Stockport, an old friend of the family. A service had previously been held at the funeral parlors at Valley Junction. Burial was in the Bentonsport cemetery.
