Leroy Beggs

Leroy Beggs, 80, died at 1 a.m. today at his home, 322 North Hancock street.

He was an employe of John Morrell & Co. for 30 years. He retired in 1947.

Born June 4, 1879, in Van Buren county, he was the son of James W. and Margaret Beggs. He had lived in Ottumwa since 1916 and was a member of the First Baptist church and Morrell Retired Employes' club.

Surviving are his wife Luzetta; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Chidester and Mrs. Reva Spurlock both of Ottumwa; three sons, Ardath Beggs of Yakima, Wash., and Stanley and Delbert Beggs, both of Ottumwa; two step-daughters, Mrs. Ed Farnsworth of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ray Mourer of Richland; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, and two half-brothers, Arthur Beggs of Hubbard and Otto Beggs of Keosauqua.

His first wife, Carrie, preceded him in death in 1930. He was also preceded by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Jay funeral home. The Rev. Harold Day of the North Court Baptist church will officiate. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
