MRS. MARGARET SEDWICK

(Powell, Wyo., Tribune)
Mrs. Margaret Sedwick, widow of the late William Sedwick, who was one of the Powell valley's pioneer homesteaders, died at her home near Powell on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 17, at about 4:30 o'clock.

Arthritis had kept her almost an invalid for some time, and for the past several years she could walk only with the aid of crutches. She had reached the age of 70 years. Up to the last eight years she was active about her home and in community life. She was prominent with the Rebekah and Royal Neighbor organizations years ago and helped with church work including the aid society and missionary organizations. During the World War she was very active with the Red Cross.

Many old time friends and neighbors of this good pioneer woman will congregate at the Presbyterian church on Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, where a service will be conducted by Rev. Wm. Fred Wills in respect to her memory. Burial will be made in Crown cemetery beside the grave of her husband.

It was in 1923, ten years ago, when Mr. Sedwick died. They came to Powell with the early settlers in 1909 from Iowa, taking up a homestead one and a half miles southwest of town. Ever since, about 24 years, Mrs. Sedwick has resided there, the farm being tilled since her husband's death by her son, Henry.

Mrs. Sedwick is survived by two sons and two daughters, The sons are Henry and William, well known farmers of this locality. A daughter, Mrs. Sidney Tufts, has made her home with her mother for past year; another daughter, Frances, now Mrs. O.W. Allman, resides in Chicago. Both daughters were married and settled in their own homes in the east before Mr. and Mrs. Sedwick came to Wyoming, so their family since they came out here had consisted only of their two sons, both of whom are now located on farm homes in the valley. Miss Carlotta Brooks, a sister has been making her home with Mrs. Sedwick here for the past eight years.

A Native of Iowa

Margaret Brooks was Mrs. Sedwick's maiden name. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luman A. Brooks and was born at Bentonsport, Iowa, April 10, 1862. she passed away at her home near Powell, Jan. 17, 1933, at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 7 days.

She was united in marriage with William Harvey Sedwick at Bentonsport, Iowa, Oct. 20, 1880.

Mrs. Sedwick united with the Presbyterian church at Bentonsport 31 years ago.

Two sisters, Miss Carlota Brooks and Mrs. John Wells of Ottumwa, Iowa, mourn her passing, also the four children and their families, including seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
