Carol E. Knowles, 78, of Farmington, IA, passed away December 11, 2016, at the Keosauqua Health Care Center.

Born May 28, 1938, in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Eugene and Kathryn Isabel (Waller) Van Horn. On August 30, 1963, she married William Franklin Knowles in Littleton, IL.

Survivors include her husband Frank Knowles of Farmington, IA, four children: Mark Franklin Knowles of Virginia, Joyce LeAnn Rummell of Oregon, Dawn Elin Long of Montana and William Glenn Knowles of Farmington, IA, nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; One great-great-grandchild, two sisters, Joyce Frauens of Illinois and Donna Weber of Illinois; and one brother, Tom Van Horn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kreig, and twin sister, Kathryn Lund.

Carol was a member of the Bonaparte Baptist Church. She worked as a music teacher for Marquette and Central Lee Schools and retired as a guard from the Iowa State Penitentiary. She enjoyed sewing, making crafts and quilting. She gave away the quilts she made, especially to families with newborn babies.

Her body has been entrusted to Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

The Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington is assisting the family with the arrangements.
