Morris W. Cramer

Morris W. Cramer was born Dec. 6th, 1876, in the city of New York. His parents died when he was a small child and he was placed in a Lutheran Orphanage on the St. Charles Rock Road in St. Louis county where he remained several years, there received his education. He united with the Lutheran church during that time.

From there he went to "Hartsburg Place," the DeHart country home, to live until he became of age.

At the breaking out of the Spanish American war in 1898 he enlisted in Battery K, 7th Regiment of Artillery. In 1900 he enlisted in Co. C, 6th Regiment of Infantry. In 1903 he was in Company M, 10th Regiment of Infantry.

Former Lieutenant Morris W. Cramer served in the Spanish American War, Boxer Rebellion and Philippine Insurrection and was honorably discharged. After nine years of service with Uncle Sam he returned and was at home for one year, then was married to Fanny R. DeHart on Feb. 29th, 1908.

Mr. Cramer was a member of Polar Star Lodge No. 79, A.F. & A.M., member and Past Patron of Allah Chapter O.E.S. 376, also member of Gen. Theo. J. Wint Camp No. 14, U.S. W.V., all of St. Louis.

Surviving are his wife and foster daughter, Sybil Plagenberg.

Funeral services were conducted by Magnolia Chapter O.E.S. No. 276 of Bonaparte, assisted by Rev. C.H. Orf of Keosauqua on Wednesday at 2 p.m., Oct. 26th, 1938, at the Burnett Funeral Home. Bonaparte Lodge No. 73, A.F. & A.M. had charge of services at the grave. He was laid to rest at the grave. He was laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery. J.M. Marsh of Keokuk read the Masonic ceremonial.
