LYLE E. FRENCH

Lyle Ellsworth French, son of Frank and Clara French, was born near Burlington, Iowa, on Nov. 4, 1918, and passed away at the home of his grandmother in Farmington on April 6, 1938 at the age of 19 years, 5 months and 2 days.

Much of Ellsworth's early childhood was spent in the home of his grandmother in Farmington. He finished his grade school in Cedar Rapids and graduated from the high school at Packwood, Iowa, in 1937.

He was baptized in the Methodist church at Farmington and was active in Sunday School and League work, both in Cedar Rapids and Packwood.

He leaves to mourn him, his father, his invalid mother, one brother, Harold, his grandmother, Mrs. Maggie French, many aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends.

He was a young man of the finest character with a vision that made him seek for the worth while things in life. He strove always for the knowledge that brings light, and even during his short span of life on earth he has proven himself to be one of those whose being makes the world a better place. During his long weeks of intense suffering displayed the patience and fortitude that can come only from a soul in tune with God. He faced death with a faith that made him calm and brave and full of assurance that God was with him.

Funeral services were held in the Farmington Methodist Episcopal church Friday, April 8, by Rev. Harvey E. Butler, with the assistance of Rev. Walter A. Samp of Burlington, former pastor of the Farmington M.E. church, and Rev. Frank H. Ward of the Sunshine Mission, Cedar Rapids. His body was laid to rest in the Athens, Mo., cemetery.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph French and Alma French of Granger, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Strubble of Memphis, Mo.; Rev. and Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Loving, Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Cowgill, Max Purdy, Philip Loving, Burdett Bennett, Harold Dickey, Robert Countryman, Ernest Nelson, Wilfred Locke, Roger Loving and Neal Smith of Packwood; Rev. and Mrs. Samp, Mr. and Mrs. W.N.
