Ruth Carter, 88, of rural Douds, died November 16, 2016, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center, Fairfield. She was born February 16, 1928, in rural Birmingham to Earl M. and Hazel B. Carl Filson and married Fred W. Carter on August 11, 1951, in the Eldon Methodist Church.

Ruth grew up in the rural Birmingham area and graduated from Birmingham High School in 1946. Fred and Ruth started their married lives living two miles west of Bladensburg, where they farmed. They then moved north of Douds to the farm where they still lived. Ruth was a farm homemaker, but was always by Fred's side right in the mix of the day to day work whether they were in the field, building fence, digging graves, or mowing at Mount Moriah Cemetery. She enjoyed attending Van Buren High School basketball games, cooking Sunday dinner, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Fred, she is survived by a son, Ron Carter (Cathy) of Douds, a daughter, Debra Loftus (Dan) of Douds, two brothers, Raymond Filson and Van Filson (Barb) all of Birmingham, five grandchildren, Patrick Lennox (Heidi) of Douds, Dustin Carter (Krista) of Libertyville, D.A. Carter (Megan) of Douds, Sarah Carter (Matt Groves) of Norwalk and Michaele Cook (Tyler) of Birmingham and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a Son, Danny Carter.

Funeral services were held November 20, 2016, at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, with Pastor Phil Campbell officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Douds.
