OBITUARY
Mr. George Bruce Flood was born near Indianapolis, Indiana, January 14th, 1832, and left the scenes of this world and passed on to the spirit world February 22, 1902, aged seventy years, one month and eight days. When only eight years of age he came with his father's family to Farmington, arriving here in the year 1840 and settling on the farm a short distance below Farmington, where he has lived and where his home has been up to the time of his death, with the exception of a few years that he spent in California. In the year 1856 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Good, of Farmington, and became the father of eight children, four sons and four daughters, only three of whom are living, viz; Mrs. Estella Woodworth, Mrs. Lucretia Jenkins and Wm. Flood, all of Farmington. He has also left eight grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends to mourn his loss. He was the last living member of his father's family; the last one preceding him being Mr. Stephen Flood who died just two months ago to the very day and hour. Mr. Flood's health has been failing for several years, but he was able to be around and look after his business until the last nine months, during which time he has been a great sufferer, particularly during the last two months of his life. He has endured his suffering with a great deal of patience and awaited the end with fortitude. With a full knowledge that his earthly life was drawing to a close, he selected for his pall-bearers as many of the men as possible who crossed the plains with him to California in that early day. But some of the number have crossed the river of death before him, while others have moved away leaving only one of the number who could be obtained. He also requested that Rev. G. C. Goodenough should preach his funeral sermon, which request was complied with and the funeral took place at the home residence on Monday, February 24th, at 2 o'clock p.m. and remains were taken to the cemetery on the hill for interment. A large number of relatives and friends were present to sympathize with the afflicted and to look for the last time upon the face of one whom they loved. Thus another of the pioneers of the country has left our midst. One by one they bid adieu to friends. One by one they cross the river of death. One by one they greet their friends on the silvery strand of eternity, and one by one they take their places among that vast multitude who come up from the profound depths of the universe to perform the behests of the Almighty.
