DAUGHTER OF FORMER FARMINGTON PEOPLE DIES AT
MERCY HOSPITAL IN DES MOINES

Gertrude B., daughter of Joshua and Julia Locke, was born at Mt. Sterling, Iowa, July 2, 1874. When a child she moved to Winterset, Madison county, Iowa, where most of her life was spent.

She was married in January 1909 to Daniel Alkire of Des Moines, where she lived happily until her death which occured April 3, 1911 [HER PHOTO] at Mercy hospital where she underwent an operation. She was converted in her earlier life and united with the Christian church at Winterset, Iowa.

Her funeral was held from her late home in Des Moines on April 6th, and was in charge of the Rev. Van Horn, of east Des Moines. A very large number of people were present and the floral display was most beautiful. Mrs. Alkire is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Locke and her death is a source of great grief to them.

She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, Daniel Alkire, her father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Locke, and three brothers Harvey, John and Buren Locke.

There is no death. What seems so is transition.
This life of mortal breath, is but
a suburb of the life Elisian
Whose portals we call death.

There is no death but angel forms
walk o'er the earth with silent tread;
They bear our best beloved things away,
