JOHN R. MADDEN

John Robert Madden was born Dec. 30, 1856, and passed away in Des Moines Jan. 31, 1948. His age was 91 years, 1 month and 1 day.

He was the oldest of a family of six sons and 2 daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Madden near Mt. Sterling, Iowa. He is survived by one brother, Frank, now living in San Gabriel, California.

Mr. Madden joined the Christian church when a young man and continued his membership the rest of his life. He was active in the church and Sunday School most of his life and in later years was a member of the Keosauqua Christian church.

When 21 years old he was united in marriage to Emma Pettit and spent 65 years of married life on the same farm located near the "Y" south of Keosauqua. His wife, Emma, passed away Nov. 22, 1943, at the age of 84 years.

To Mr. and Mrs. Madden were born two children, Glen, who died in infancy, and Arch, now lives in Des Moines. There are four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Keosauqua Monday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. with the pastor, Rev. Walter Llewellyn officiating.
Burial was in Center Chapel cemetery.
