Charles L. Beswick

Charles Leron Beswick, 74, well-known Van Buren county farmer, died at his home at Stockport at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The son of Thomas and Kate Goodall Beswick, he was born January 30, 1874, at the ancestral farm home southwest of Stockport, where he resided until March this year, when due to ill health the family moved to Stockport.

He was married December 24, 1896, to Belle Lucas of Stockport, who with their daughter, Miss Marguerite Beswick, at home, survives. The Beswicks observed their golden wedding in 1946. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Annie, who died in infancy, and Alethea, who died in 1901.

He had been a member of the Christian church since youth and had served as Sunday school superintendent and an elder for many years. For 12 yeears he was a member of the Stockport board of education, later serving as secretary to this group. For 47 years he kept a government weather station at his farm. In 1933 served as representative in the state legislature and served in an extra session in 1934. He was a member of the K. of P. lodge and the Farm Bureau.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stockport Christian church, in charge of the Rev. L.R. Putnam of Union, Iowa, former pastor here. Burial in the Winchester cemetery.
