Miss Mary Day

Miss Mary Day, 80, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Welch in Keosauqua. She was improving after four weeks' illness with a minor ailment when she suffered a stroke a few hours before her death.

She was a daughter of the late Ira B. and Hollie R. Day and was born at Utica in Van Buren county, Aug, 29, 1869. She taught school for several years in Waterloo schools. For the past four years she has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Welch. She was a member of the Waterloo Presbyterian church at P.E.O.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Laura Morris of Des Moines, Miss Frances Day and Mrs. Georgia Day Robertson of Santa Ana, Calif., and Mrs. Welch of Keosauqua, and one brother, William E. Day of St. Paul. A sister, Mrs. Edna Kennedy preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Burnett funeral home in Keosauqua, the Rev. Bernice Dalrymple of the Congregational church officiating. Burial was in the Bentonsport.
