In 1874 he removed from his home in Pennsylvania to Chicago where he was employed as conductor on the old horse-drawn street cars. From there he went to Sycamore, Ill. His employment there as implement salesman took him into Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. He located in Iowa in 1876, where he has since resided.

In the spring of 1882 he established the farm home just west of the Harrisburg church and there reared his family, retiring from the farm in March, 1925, since which time he has made his home in Bonaparte.
