-Sadness came to the people of Keosauqua Friday of last week, March 17, 1899 - sadness because of the death of Gladys Davis and because of the anguish of her parents and little sister who were so sorely bereft of a household joy. Gladys was born to W.E. and wife in Keosauqua, February 21, 1886, an at the time of her death was 13 years and 24 days old. She was beloved by her schoolmates of both Sunday and day school and by all who knew her. She was sick only a little over a week with pneumonia, but was patient in all sufferings and conscious to the end, her last words being to her mother, "raise me up," as her soul took its flight to the other world. The funeral was from the Congregational church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, to which the body was escorted by her day school class, and borne by pall bearers Rob. Sloan, Harley Strickling, Rob. McBeth, Harold Meek, Henry Strickling and Lex Therme. The church was crowded with friends who listened to a very appropriate discourse by Rev. Chas. E. Perkins, after which the body was laid away in the beautiful city of the dead, the Purdom cemetery.
