James Nason was born in Clark county, Ohio, June 6th, 1818, and died at his home in Chequest township, Van Buren county, Iowa, March 18th, 1898, aged 79 years, 10 months and 18days. Feb. 10th, 1842 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Plowman, who died 6 years ago. Of this marriage ten children were born, three of whom passed on before to the spirit land. The children living were all present at the funeral except on son, P.S. Nason, of Selden Kansas. Two years ago the father was stricken with paralysis which caused him to be unconscious to a great extent to the things of this life. During his affliction he was often heard to sing and shout the praises of God. He was converted when 18 years of age and joined the M.E. church, of which he was a member until about 18 years ago when he united with the F.M. church of which he was a faithful member until his death. The funeral services were held at the Bethel F.M. church, and were conducted by Rev. E.A. Anderson of Ottumwa.
