JOSEPH WARREN.

He "slipped away." Thus died Joseph Warren sometime between sunset Monday, July 6, and sunrise July 7. His was along and healthful life. Of later years he had his home much of the time with his son-in-law Samuel Hearn, near Keosauqua, and there he died. He walked about the farm Monday and was cheerful and as well as usual; enjoyed his supper and retired to his bed unassisted. The next morning, when his grand-daughter, Miss Jennie Hearn, went to his room to call him she found him dead. He looked as though sleeping, lying on his back with his hands folded across his breast. There was no appearance of struggle either in looks or by disarrangement of the bed. As he in life often expressed it in his way when some one had died peacefully, "he slipped away." Uncle Joseph Warren was indeed a good man. He leaves that name behind, and that is the best that one can leave. He was a devoted member of the Methodist church and lived the life he professed. We had know him for many year, and often enjoyed his friendly calls until he became afflicted with the rheumatism of old age that made it a task to ascend the office stairs. Mr. Warren would have been 82 years old next Sunday. He was born in county Wexford, Ireland, July 12, 1814, and came to the United States and to this county in 8154, making his residence here 42 years and in the county of his birth 40 years. He served as a member of the board of supervisors of Van Buren county in 1863-64, and was Justice of his township one term. He was married to Miss Ann Pierce in Ireland, Oct. 17, 1840, who died some years ago. Seven children were born to them, three yet living, one being Christopher Warren, and another the wife of S.H. Warren, both of Vernon township, this county. The deceased was well-to-do in a financial way, and had given considerable to his children in land and monied interests. He was the soul of generosity and loved to give more than to receive. The body was buried Wednesday of this week at the Center Chapel cemetery, by the side of his wife. The funeral was largely attended, the sermon being by Rev. C.W. Shepherd, a near friend for the past 40 years.
