-Born in Chequest township, Van Buren county, Iowa, Feb. 28, 1873, died at Keosauqua at 2 o'clock a.m., April 23, 1897, Lily Haney Holland, wife of C.H. Holland, and daughter of County Auditor T.W. Haney and wife, aged 24 years, 1 month and 25 days. The news of the death of this estimable lady came with a sudden shock to the people of this place. She had been here with her parents for several weeks, her husband, Howard Holland, having just completed a course in the Mt. Pleasant University. She was married to her now bereaved husband, Aug. 14, 1895, and during the forenoon of last Thursday she became the mother of a little boy that still lives. Soon after the birth of the child the mother was taken with convulsions which, in spite of all that medical attention could do, continued until she breathed her last the following morning. The home of herself and husband was at Milton and there the body was taken for burial Saturday, the sermon being by Rev. J.W. Potter of the Methodist church of which she was a member. Less than two years this good woman had been a happy wife. Her death was sad, and the young husband and her parents have the deepest sympathy of the people of Keosauqua and Milton and all others who know them.
