DIED: - Mrs. Mary Murphy died at her home in Keosauqua, Iowa, January 29, 1896, aged 60 years, 7 months and 13 days. Her maiden names was Mary Black and she was born in county of Wexford, Ireland, in 1835, and came to America and to Iowa when 20 years old. She united with the Episcopal church at an early age. On Sept. 28, 1865, at the residence of Joshua S. Sloan of Keosauqua, of whose household she was a member, she was united in marriage with Mr. Daniel Murphy, who survives her, Rev. Sands, chaplain of the Nineteenth Iowa Infantry, Mr. Murphy's regiment, performing the ceremony. Since then this place has been their home. Nearly eight years ago Mrs. Murphy received a fall while walking in her back yard, which fractured her hip, from the effects of which she was ever afterwards an invalid. During all these trying days and years that confined her to the house she was patient and cheerful. Everybody liked Aunt Mary for she was kind to all. She died with perhaps not an enemy living, and indeed she was a good woman. No children were born to her. Her afflicted husband has the deep sympathy of the community. She was a member of the Eastern Star and in the beautiful ceremony of that order she was buried, a few brief remarks being made at the residence of Rev. T.S. Oadams, many being present at the funeral which was held January 31. The remains were laid to rest in the Purdom cemetery.
