He had been attending to business as usual Friday and the news of his death came as a great shock to his many friends. he was not well Saturday, but there was nothing to alarm the family, and he got up early Sunday morning. He had not rested a great deal and so a doctor was called but at 6:30 he passed away, heart trouble being the cause of his death.

John S. Robertson was born near Birmingham, Iowa, September 21, 1855, the second son of John D. and Margaret Jane Robertson.

His father was a large land holder and early settler of Iowa. He was also a prominent Methodist and donated the plot of ground on which was built the first Methodist church in southern Iowa, which is still standing.

In 1897 Mr. Robertson moved to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where he entered the real estate business. here he was a prominent and moving spirit for fourteen years:

About nine years ago, being a frequent visitor to Chicago to see his sons, he happened to make a a visit to La Grange and was at once so taken with the location and beauty of the place that he purchased a home at 32 South Stone avenue. Her he has since resided engaging in real estate and insurance business. He was first associated with his nephew, C.A. Robertson, now of Dayton, Ohio, and later with his son-in-law, E.R. Robinson, who will continue the business.

Mr. Robertson was also interested with his sons in Chicago in the Robertson Brothers Mfg. Co., manufacturers of metal products.

Mr. Robertson had two sisters one dying at two and the other at eighteen years of age. His only brother Rev. J.F. Robertson, died at Muscatine, Iowa, in 1896, after serving as pastor of the Methodist church of that city for five years.

Mr. Robertson was united in marriage to Elizabeth Gilbert of Douds, Iowa, on December 2, 1875, and she with eight children survive him. They are F.G. Robertson of Chicago, R.R. Robertson, of Wilmette, E.A. Robertson of Berwyn, Mrs. E. Robison of LaGrange, C.C. Robertson of Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. C.J. Stone, Miss Edith Robertson and Miss Ada Robertson of La Grange.

The funeral were held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock conducted by Dr. Martin J. Magor of the First Methodist church of which the deceased had been a most devoted member. Interment was at Oak Hill cemetery, his four sons and two nephews acting as pallbearers.

Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were: Rev. and Mrs. J.F. Robertson of Knoxville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Robertson of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. V.R. Robertson and Miss Mary A. Robertson of Detroit. A daughter, Miss Ada Robertson, has been employed at Landar, Wyoming, and made a train Sunday morning just twenty minutes after receiving the telegram telling of her father's death.

Mr. Robertson had an unusual capacity for making friends and had a large circle of friends who had learned to respect his ability and esteem his character and LaGrange has lost one of its most loyal and active citizens in the death of Mr. Robertson.
