The following obituary is taken from the Times-Republican, Corydon, Iowa.

Mrs. F.S. Smith, 55, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1947, after a long illness. She had been a resident of Corydon since 1936, and in that short space of time had made many friends who are grieved at her untimely death. She was a woman of unusual intelligence and ability, possessed a beautiful disposition, and was untiring in her efforts to do good.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Corydon on Saturday, Aug. 23, 1947, at 1:00 o'clock p.m., conducted by her pastor, Dr. F.C. Edwards.

Interment was made in the cemetery at Lockridge.

Gladys Florence Bankhead, daughter of William and Lydia Bankhead, was born in Mystic, Ia., Oct. 17, 1892, and died in Des Moines, Ia., Aug. 20, 1947.

At the age of six weeks her parents moved to Lockridge, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood days.

After graduating from Iowa Wesleyan college academy she taught for a number of years and was united in marriage to Frank S. Smith Oct. 4, 1917. They established their home in Stockport, where they lived until 1936 when they moved to Corydon, Iowa.

Two children were born to this union, Sidney and Janet Louise Smith, both of Des Moines, Iowa.

Mrs. Smith's short life was spent in living the good things in live. All this she radiated in her beauty and personality.

She was an active worker in the Methodist church to which she belonged, was a member of the official board, a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and taught a church school class. She was not only loved by adults, but admired by youth. The young people's choir gave the beautiful corsage which she last wore.

Besides the church activities, Mrs. Smith was a P.E.O., member of the Entre Nous and Eden Garden clubs.
