Death of Benjamin Short.

Mr. Benj. Short of Lick Creek township, whose sickness was mentioned sometime ago, died Saturday, Dec. 18. He was 80 years old, and had been a citizen of our neighborhood for more than half a century, and was well known, and all who knew him honored and respected him, and admired his many good qualities. He was a man of firm principle, his influence being always on the side of the right and whatever was for the best interest of his fellow men. We who have been his friend and neighbor for years feel that Father Short's life has not been in vain. It has been one of usefulness and the world has been made better by his having lived in it. His two sons have become permanent citizens in our neighborhood but his daughters have all moved away to other states, only one bein present at the funeral, Mrs. Tobias of Lamar, Mo.

Rev. C.W. Shepherd conducted the funeral services in the M.E. church. His remains were then laid to rest in the Kilbourne cemetery by the side of his companion.

The following brief biographical sketch of the deceased was furnished by Rev. C.W. Shepherd:

"Benjamin Short was born in Ross county, Ohio, Nov. 15, 1817. He moved to Rush county, Ind., in 1833, and from there to Clay county, where he was married to Miss Rhoda Johns Feb. 4, 1844. April 19, 1846, he with is wife and infant son Charles set out for Iowa territory, arriving in Lick Creek township May 9, of the same year. There he had lived ever since (52 years) and had a family of 11 children, 8 of whom are living."
