D. Imogene Peacock 1936-2016

D. Imogene Peacock, 79, of Douds, died September 6, 2016, at Bloomfield Care Center where she had resided since March 9, 2015. She was born September 11, 1936, in the Oak Grove neighborhood east of Douds to Lester V. and Erma Pool Hootman, grew up in the Oak Grove area and graduated from Birmingham High School and Parsons College, Fairfield. Imogene married Wendell W. Peacock, May 29, 1960, in Oak Grove Church. He died January 2, 2016. They lived their married life in Douds. She taught elementary grades in a rural Keosauqua country school and in Douds and Stockport centers of Van Buren Community Schools, retiring in 1992.

Imogene was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, which she served as Sunday School superintendent, Iowa and National Education ASSociations, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Van Buren County Retired Teachers Association and served on the board of White Chapel Cemetery east of Douds.

Remaining to cherish her memory are a daughter, Karoline Thornsberry (David) of Douds, four grandchildren, Ryan Thornsberry of Cantril, and Sarah, Taylor and Zane Thornsberry at home, and a brother, Wayne Hootman (Diana) of rural Douds. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Darrell Hootman, and a sister, Juanita Hootman.

Funeral Services were held September 10, 2016, at Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, with Rev. Herb Shafer officiating.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, assisted with arrangements.
