Auto Accident Near Selma.
Last Sunday an automobile accident occurred just east of Selma, near the old Hinkle farm, in which a little girl 12 years of age was killed, her grandfather sustained a badly broken limb, and the mother is in serious condition.
The name of the family was Wilkin, living east of Ottumwa, and were on their way to Milton to spend the day. Mr. Wilkin was an inexperienced driver, and coming to a narrow bridge which was covered with mud, and buried in the mud was a rock about twice the size of a man's fist, the car striking the rock caused the steering wheel to be jerked from his hand, and the car jumped off the bridge into the hollow bottom side up with the family under it.
The car was lifted from the injured occupants, by persons in a car following them. The little girl's back was broken, altho she had managed to crawl from under the car and walked a short distance, and falling was dead when her friends reached her. The father of the little girl and a younger sister escaped with slight injuries.
