OLD BONAPARTE CITIZEN PASSED AWAY

Sidney Parker, an old time resident of Bonaparte, died of cancer Saturday, Feb. 14, at Ottumwa at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M.C. Schreiner. Mr. Parker was born in England about 76 years ago and came to this country when about nine years of age. He was a potter by trade and was one of the original owners of the old potter shop that used to be where the lumber yard is now located. He with his partner, Thos. Hanback, under the name of Parker & Hanback, built and operated this pottery for years. Later Mr. Parker sold his interest to Robt. Wilson. Mr. Wilson died some 12 years ago and Mr. Hanback a little more than a year ago. Mr. Parker possessed a bright mind and had been a prominent citizen of Bonaparte. He had been township clerk and township trustee and master of Bonaparte lodge No. 73 A.F. and A.M.. He and John Longdon, now of London, Eng., John Stirling of Corydon, Ia., Dr. Steinmeyer and the writer were the original movers in the establishment of the Masonic library at Bonaparte, the largest and best public library in this section. His life was thus not without usefulness.

Mr. Parker leaves one son and two daughters: Walter S. of Prairie City, Ia., Mrs. Georgia Schreiner of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Minnie Ryland of Bonaparte, also two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Presbyterian church at Bonaparte with interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
