C.S. PARKER

Calvin S. Parker was born near Greencastle, Putnam county, Indiana, Sept. 12, 1844, and died at his home in Keosauqua, March 4, 1902, at the age of 57 years, 3 months and 22 days. His father, mother and two brothers preceded him to the better land. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Prall of Ringgold county, Mrs. McDonald of Upton and Mrs. Jennie Miles of this place, his four sisters, survive him.

Mr. Parker came with his parents to this county in 1853 and has resided within the bounds of the county ever since. On March 22, 1869, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Roberts. To this union was born one son, Jesse, the present genial clerk in the Keosauqua post office, who, together with his mother, relatives, many friends and a daughter whom Mr. and Mrs. Parker took when a child and raised to womanhood, mourn the loss of a father, husdand(sp), brother and friend.

Mr. Parker was converted under the ministry of Rev. Piper and united with the M.E. church at Pittsburg, Iowa, Feb. 14, 1888. For the last eight or ten years he has held his membership in the Keosauqua M.E. church.

He lived a consistent Christian life and died in a living faith. The funeral sermon was preached by his pastor, Rev. W.R. Jeffery, March 5, in the Pittsburg church. The interment was in the Pittsburg cemetery.
