Death of Mrs. Dow.
(Note: hand notation "should be WHITHAR". I am not sure if that is the correct letters or not. Print is faint.)

Miss Sarah Whitney was born and reared on a farm in Jefferson county, Indiana. She was the tenth child of a family of twelve children three of whom survive her. Coming to Iowa in 1854 to make her home with her sisters, she met her future husband and was married Jan. 3, 1855, moving to the home 1 1/2 miles east of Stockport on their wedding day at which place she resided continuously until her death, 50 yrs., 4 mos., and 28 days.

To this union four children were born, two daughters and two sons, the daughters preceding her to the great beyond.

Mrs. Dow had always been in good health until the past year or two. Last April, the 6th, she underwent an operatin(sp) for cancer which proved to be successful until paralysis interfered with her recovery. For 18 days prior to her demise she was not known to have swallowed any food, drink or medicine consequently was much wasted.

She was not so aged as to become being 69 yrs., 3 mos. and 2 days, dying June 1, 1905.

The remaining sons will miss her as she always a confident in their undertakings and was a kind mother and a good friend and neighbor.

Her husband Caleb Dow preceeded her in death, while she leaves two sons, two grand children and two great grand children to mourn her departure.
