Evelyn J. “Joy” Roberts, 79, of rural Mt. Sterling, IA, died at 2:38 P.M., Thursday July 21, 2016, at Keosauqua Health Care Center.
She was born February 7, 1937, near Mt. Sterling to James and Ellen Bennett Lancaster.

Joy grew up in Mt. Sterling and graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1955. She married Roy Roberts at Mt. Sterling Methodist Church on January 1, 1956. He died September 9, 2011. She was a member of Concord Christian Church in Concord, IL, and most recently attended Mt. Sterling Community Church. She was a member of Mt. Sterling Betterment, Mt. Sterling Pool Team and MUMMS Children’s After School Program. Joy loved to garden, do jigsaw puzzles and crafts. Her greatest enjoyment was attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She was also known for her famous caramel corn she made every winter.

Surviving are two daughters, Pam Dinkelman (Wally) of Irvington, IL, and Carolyn Bone (Kraig) of Old Mines, MO, four grandchildren, Brian (Randi) Dinkelman of Cedar Rapids, Lindsay Dinkelman of North Liberty, Madalyn and Sarah Bone of Old Mines, MO, a great-granddaughter, Sydney Jade Dinkelman, a sister, Barb Craig (Dale) of Keosauqua, a brother, Joe Lancaster of Viola, IL, two
sisters-in-law, Neva and Irene, three brothers-in-law, Ted, Lee and Billy, and mother-in-law, Ruth Roberts of Roscoe, MO. Joy leaves behind a host of friends and good neighbors. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Roberts.

Graveside service and interment of cremains were held on July 25, 2016, at Harness Cemetery, Mt. Sterling with Rev. Bill Shewmaker and Rev. Larry Smith officiating.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, assisted with arrangements.
