Bessie Marie Elliott

Bessie Marie Smith, daughter of Arthur S. Smith and Josephine Smith, was born at Memphis, Tenn. Feb. 12, 1892. She departed this life Feb. 8, 1951 at the age of 58 years, 11 months and 26 days. The most of her life was spent in Memphis where she became a member of the Methodist church at an early age. She joined the Eastern Star lodge in Memphis where she was a charter member.

During the earlier part of her life she was employed as a bookkeeper and typist for several firms in Memphis.

On April 30, 1942, she was united in marriage to Glenn E. Elliott and moved to a farm near Cantril where she made her home until her sudden death.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother Verner.

She leaves to mourn her passing her surviving husband, Glenn E. Elliott; her step-son Hollis Elliott and family, Keosauqua, Ia.; two brothers, Arthur J. Smith and family, Memphis, Tenn., and Lloyd E. Smith and family, Signal Mountain, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Smith and family of Memphis, Tenn., and a host of other relatives and friends both here and at her former home in Memphis.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Burton C. Bastuscheck at the Burnett-Catcott funeral home in Keosauqua on Friday afternoon, Feb. 9, at 2 o'clock. Further services and burial were at Memphis, Tenn.
