Emmet Murphy Funeral Held

R. Emmet Murphy lifelong (devotee) of throughbred racing and unofficial custodian of all press boxes on the Maryland-West Virginia-Delaware circuit, who (died) Friday, was buried today at Arlington National Cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted by the Very Rev. Russell (Phelan), pastor of the Cathlolic Annunciation Church, at the Chambers funeral home in Georgetown.

A native of Fort Madison, Iowa, Mr. Murphy was employed in the General Accounting Office for the last 17 years. His hobby was racing and he had been "adopted" by the turf writers.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his sister, Mrs. Houri M. Clark.

EMMETT MURPHY, a racing ambassador without portfolio and without compensation, died yesterday at Mount Alto Hospital here. His age, his ancestry, his war record and his vital statistics will be published - but they won't label the "Murphy" we of the pressbox know.

**Handwritten: 1957

He is racing's greatest loss since Washington Jake, both were faithful, sincere and lovable, each in his own way.

No task or favor was too complicated or too bothersome to assign to this man. He was a friend whether we were in need or not in need. It's cinch he'll by pass purgatory.
