FORT MADISON - Charles Alvin Bowen 78, of 2218 Avenue F, Fort Madison died at 5:30 a.m. January 28 in Sacred Heart hospital, Fort Madison after being seriously ill for two weeks.

Born December 21, 1891 near Delta, Iowa, the son of Willian and Ida Pence Bowen, he was a resident of Fort Madison for 52 years. He was a retired Santa Fe. RR employee, a member of the First Christian church, the Claypoole Lodge No. 13 A.F. and A.M. Masonic Lodge and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen.

Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Chester (Dorothy) Burgener, 512 24th Street, Fort Madison, a granddaughter, Mrs. Michael (Carol) Hellige, Iowa City, one brother, Omer Bowen, What Cheer, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Selby, Delta, and Mrs. Elmer Courtney, What Cheer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31 in Nieters Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial park. Claypoole Lodge No. 13 A.F. and A.M. Masonic Lodge will conduct service at 7 p.m. on Friday.
