John T. Tharp

John T. Tharp, son of William Marshall and Martha M. Tharp, was born Aug. 1, 1868 in Van Buren county near Mt. Sterling, Iowa and passed away on the Van Buren County Memorial hosiptal(sp), Keosauqua, on Sept. 12, 1953 at the age of 85 years, one month and 12 days.

Mr. Tharp became a member of M.E. church at Mt. Sterling in 1890. He served for several years in the County Recorder's office at Keosauqua, and also as mayor of Mt. Sterling.

In 1934 on March 22 he was united in marriage to Laura A. Watkins, who survives him. He is also survived by eight step-children, 18 step-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mt. Sterling Methodist church with the Rev. Harold Harryman of Milton officiating. Burial was in Center Chapel cemetery.
