GASTON.

Died, at his home in Henry township, on Thursday evening, July 2, 1896, Mr. William Gaston, aged 76 years, 6 months and 12 days. The deceased was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, Nov. 20, 1819.

In the year 1839, in company with his parents, he emigrated from his native state and settled at Vernon, Van Buren county, Iowa, and either there or in its near vicinity the remainder of his long and useful life was passed.

On September 20, 1845, he was united in marriage to Miss Rachael Thomas who survives him. Eleven children came to bless this union of whom five sons and three daughters remain behind to mourn their loss.

Mr. Gaston was a man of strong religious convictions and while not actively identified with any branch of the visible church his faith in God and love and respect for his written word never failed.

During his later years the bible was his constant study and his life was largely spent in prayer. As the end approached while yet able to communicate with the loved ones he was soon to leave behind he gave a beautiful testimony of his conscious acceptance with God and his willingness to depart to be with Him and rest.

His funeral occurred on Saturday, July 4, from the Vernon M.E. churh(church), religious services conducted by Rev. C.W. Wilson. The body was interred in the Vernon cemetery.
