MRS. JOHN W. THORNTON

Margaret E. Shamblin Thornton, the daughter of Gilmore and Laura Belle Shamblin, was born Feb. 2, 1885 about one mile south of Hillsboro in Henry county.

She lived most of her life in Hillsboro with the exception of a few years during which time she lived in Greenfield and Ft. Madison. She was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist church. She was united in marriage to John W. Thornton on Feb. 8, 1906, at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and from this union four children were born: Clara, Nora, Claude and Roberta.

She passed away in the hospital at Ottumwa, Iowa, on Dec. ?, 1955 after an illness of several months.

Her husband, John W. Thornton, and her only brother, Albert Shamblin, preceded her in death.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clara Weller of Winfield, Iowa; Miss Nora Thornton and Mrs. Roberta Boitscha, both of Hillsboro, Iowa; a son, Mr. Claude Thornton of Fairfield, Iowa; four grandchildren, Larry Weller of Winfield, Iowa, Judy Burlage of Davenport, Iowa, Albert and Christine Thornton of Fairfield, Iowa; and a nephew, Mrs. Melvin Shamblin of Hillsboro, Iowa.

Rev. Roy Herndon, officiated at last rites Saturday P.M., Dec. 3 at Hillsboro Baptist church. Mrs. Irene Hoaglin played sacred instrumental selections. Bearers were Clyde Hoaglin, Frank Hoaglin, C.F. Hoaglin, Willis Davis, John Fleming and Burch Boley. Burial was in Hillsboro was in Hillsboro cemetery.

Out of town people there were Mrs. Clara Weller and son, Larry, of Winfield; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Thornton and family of Fairfield; Mr. and Mrs. Karl Keck, Bonaparte; Lawrence Weller, Milton; Floyd Wilson and son of Batavia; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Elmore and Mr. Nesbitt of Mt. Pleasant.
