Decker Craige Sherod

Decker Craige Sherod, son of Reason and Mary Miles Sherod, was born near Winchester, Iowa, Sept. 27, 1883, and passed away in Keosauqua on April 26, 1969, at the age of 85 years 6 months and 29 days.

On Dec. 11, 1902, he was united in marriage to Maude S. Workman at Birmingham, Iowa. They spent a few years on a farm and moved to Keosauqua in 1918 where they operated a restaurant and later a garage and gas station. Mrs. Sherod passed away Aug. 23, 1954, and Craige moved to Pittsburgh in 1958.

The Sherods were the parents of 5 children, three of them passing away in infancy. Those surviving are Elizabeth, now Mrs. Charles Wallace of Stockport and Jack Sherod of Mt. Sterling. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Sheila of Burlington, Iowa, Mary Ann Plowman of Ft. Devens, Mass., and Richard Sherod at home. Two great grandchildren, Billy and Irene Plemmons of whom he was so proud also survive. Other survivors are one brother, Glenn Sherod and one sister, Berneice Dunshee, both of Keosauqua, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his beloved wife and one brother.

He was a good and kindly man, doing many wonderful things for his many friends. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
