LUTHER W. HIXSON

Luther W. Hixson, son of James and Martha Mendenhall Hixson, was born Feb. 23, 1873 and after a year's illness departed this life May 14, 1953. On Dec. 16, 1896 he was united in marriage with Florence M. Shaw and to this union were born four children, Lester p. of New London, Iowa; Phil W. of Hillsboro; and twin daughters, Erma and Verna.

Lute as he was better known was a life long resident of the Hillsboro community and member of the Big Mound Christian church.

Surviving are his widow, two sons, three grandchildren, Robert L. Hixson of Hamberg, Iowa; Mrs. May Lou Roan of Keokuk and Sara K. Hixson of Hillsboro and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Newbold of Hillsboro, Mrs. Ella Roberts of Chicago and Mrs. Muriel Morris of Oklahoma city and one brother, Harley of Kansas city. The infant daughters and two brothers, Ray and George, and one sister, Telva Hayword, preceded him in death.

Services were held Saturday, May 16 at Hillsboro Christian church at 2 p.m., the Rev. Harold Johnson of Fairfield officiating. Mrs. B.M. Clark furnished music and Mrs. Ray Kaspel of Salem was soloist. Pallbearers were Elton McCabe, Boyd Miller, Roland Newbold, C.F. Hoaglin, L.T. Harlan and Ren Endersby. Interment at Hillsboro cemetery.
