H.C. Ripley
Henry Clay Ripley was born Feb. 12, 1848, in Gallia County, Ohio. He came from Ohio to Illinois and later removed to Iowa, and to the present home near Selma, where he passed away Oct. 26, 1922, aged 74 years, 8 months and 21 days.
He was married to Miss Ida Seiver Sept. 15, 1865, who with four children, Dow of Buffalo Prarie, Ill.; Mrs. Arthur Campbell of Selma; Claire of Eldon; and Willis at home, survive him. Two children, Henry and Jacob, preceded him in death.
He enlisted in Company I, Twenty-eighth Volunteer Infantry, and served his country in the Civil War.
A brief service was held at the home, Friday afternoon, conducted by the Methodist pastor, Rev. Garrett; afterwards the remains were taken to Muscatine, where on Saturday another service was held for his friends, where he formerly resided. Interment was made in the home cemetery, a short distance from Muscatine on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River.
Mr. Ripley, in the fourteen years that he resided in the vicinity, was a man well thought of by all; a good neighbor, and assisted in doing neighborly deeds; a man of quiet, unassuming disposition. He will be missed by the circle of friends he formed during the hours spent here.
