She was born February 15, 1932, at Keosauqua, IA, the fourth of six children to Earnest and Lena (Kreiss) DeHart. Raised in the Keosauqua area, Lou graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1950. Lou and John resided in Des Moines for several years. Lou was a stay-athome mom, taking care of their family while her husband was a short-haul truck driver. She enjoyed baking, puzzles and taking care of the garden. Lou and John spent weekend evenings playing cards with friends and family.

Lou belonged to the auxiliary and had designed an awardwinning scrapbook for their state competition. Lou and John enjoyed playing bingo and 31 with friends.

Lou moved to Pella in April 2013 to be closer to family. Living at Vriendschap Village, she enjoyed coffee time, games, cards, and the many, many friends who became her extended family. She could be counted on to help with various activities in the Village and she enjoyed working in the Village library.
