Donald E. Smith, 95, of rural Douds, IA, died Friday, May 6, 2016, at home. He was born July 19, 1920, at Farson, IA, to Raphael and
Mary Neva Miller Smith and married Lorene Marie Vannoy August 30, 1941, in Lancaster, MO. She died January 21, 1997. They lived in Libertyville until moving to their farm near Douds in 1986. Don attended Competine rural school, and worked as a farm laborer as a young man, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked at Dexter Co., Fairfield, until retiring to the farm.

Surviving are four daughters, Donna Donald, Bonnie Carter (Bill) and Joyce Teeter (Chuck) all of Keosauqua, and Linda Rutledge (Terry) of Birmingham, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and four sisters, Dorothy Bates of Ft. Madison, Alice Lee of North Liberty, Virginia Falkner (Bill) of Martinsburg and Annie Miller (Melvin) of Springfield, MO. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by four brothers, Dale, Gerald, Floyd and Keith E. Smith and a sister, Lulu Belle Collet.

Funeral services were held May 10, 2016, in Faith United Methodist Church, Libertyville, with Pastor Mary Kathryn Hart officiating. Burial was in Competine Cemetery, Farson.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, assisted with the arrangements.
