Douglas W. Ives

Douglas W. Ives, 60, of Jackson, Ala., formerly of Birmingham, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 in Jackson.

A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Monday in Birmingham United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 531 W. Cedar, Birmingham 52535.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is handling arrangements.

Mr. Ives was born May 31, 1953, in Fairfield the son of Gene and Lydia Hinkle Ives.

He grew up in the home of his foster parents Ernest and Betty Hinkle in Birmingham and attended Van Buren community schools.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He worked many years at the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Ill., and was a truck driver.

Survivors include two daughters, Melanie Watts and family and Jacqueline Purdy and family, both of Muscatine; one sister, Debbie Cowder and family of Alaska; one brother, Dennis Ives of Mountain Home, Ark., his stepfather, Bob Denney of North Carolina; one sister, Diane Payne and family of North Carolina; one stepsister, Shirley Denney of Burlington; two stepbrothers, Wesley Denney of North Carolina and Richard Denney of Fairfield; and his foster parents of Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepsister, Ava Denney; and one stepbrother, Philip Denney.
