DONALD A. HUNT VICTIM OF AUTOMOBILE WRECK

Fatally Injured While Enroute To Farmington To Meet Family

Donald A. Hunt of Woodbine, Iowa, formerly of Farmington, was fatally injured early Saturday morning in an automobile wreck about one mile east of Batavia on number 34. He died about six a.m. in an Ottumwa hospital where he was taken following the accident in which the car in which he was driving alone was struck by Al Ortale of Des Moines. Mr. Hunt's automobile was demolished. The truck was turned over.

Mr. Hunt was en route to Farmington where his wife, Mrs. Mayme Hunt, had been visiting with her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick. The Hunt family had been making their home on a farm near Woodbine, Iowa.

The accident happened shortly before two a.m. Mr. Hunt was driving east. His injuries were many, including a crushed left arm which was amputated at the hospital, a broken knee, a severe chest wound, and many bruises. The body was removed to the Page funeral home in Farmington.

Donald Alonzo Hunt was born near Logan, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1890. He was the first born son to Charles W. and Nettie A. Hunt. Donald spent his childhood days near Logan, graduating from the Logan high school in the class of 1908, later attending Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa, and graduating there with the class of 1913.

On March 17, 1915, he was united in marriage to Mayme Kirkpatrick of Farmington, Iowa, and moved to a farm near Logan, Iowa. Here they remained until February, 1922, at which time they moved to Farmington. Here he became active in farm supervision work. Mr. Hunt resided in Farmington until 1931 when he moved to Woodbine, Iowa, continuing in his capacity as farm supervisor with the Prudential Insurance Co. of Omaha, Neb., until his untimely passing.

To Donald and Mayme, a daughter Mary Elizabeth was born on Sept. 23, 1917. Another daughter, Josephine Kirkpatrick was born on Nov. 7, 1923.

Mr. Hunt was always active in community affairs. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. While at Iowa State College he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and for three years played football on the college varsity team.

He was generous and thoughtful with all associates and to know him was to like him. He was preceded in death by his mother, who passed away Dec. 24, 1898. He leaves to mourn his passing, besides his wife Mayme, and daughters, Elizabeth and Josephine, his father, C.W. Hunt of Washington, D.C., one brother, Robert, of Arion, Iowa, one half-brother, Walter of St. Paul, Minn., one half-sister, Mrs. Camilla Harris of Virginia Heights, Virginia., two step-brothers, Harry Joy of DeWitt, Iowa, and Ardo Joy of Indianapolis, Ind., a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

He passed away Saturday, August 3, 1935, at about 6 a.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital in Ottumwa, Iowa, at the age of 45 years, 6 months and 1 day, as a result of an automobile accident near Batavia, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the Kirkpatrick home in Farmington on Monday afternoon at three o'clock with Rev. H.E. Butler officiating. Mrs. H.E. Millen sang, accompanied by Mrs. H.E. Folker. Interment was in Farmington cemetery.

Those from a distance attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Harley Hunt and Jason Hunt of Woodbine, Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Hass of Oxford, Iowa, cousins, two step-brothers, Harry and Ardo Joy and wives of DeWitt, Iowa, and Indianapolis, Ind., a brother, Robert Hunt of Arion, Iowa, and Mesdames Tolefson, Oviatt, Crane and Kalsem, and Mr. Carey DeCourt of Woodbine.
