OBITUARIES.

Mary Louisa Lane was born near East Liberty, Logan county, Ohio, Sept. 19, 1842, and died at Keosauqua, Iowa, July 29, 1905. She was the youngest daughter and next to the youngest child of David P. and Susanna Lane. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1854 and located in Van Buren county, where she ever since resided with the exception of four or five years when she made her home at Troy, Iowa. Since 1871 her home has been with her brother A.H. Lane. She was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Cantril in 1862 under the ministry of the Rev. G.W. Friend. She led a faithful, devoted christian life, ever exemplifying the exalted truth of the teachings of her Lord and Master. On April 3, 1905, she came home stricken with an illness from which she found but little relief until translated to the mansions of the King. During the weeks and months she bore her sufferings which were almost constant and at times intense, without complaining. Her patience was greater than her suffering and the divine grace equal to her need. She was anxious to recover but her prayer was that God would give her strength to bear her pain, and that she might be submissive to his will. She sent word to her friends in Ohio that if she did not get to meet them again in this world she would meet them in the next. When she found that she could not recover, she was anxious that the hour might come when she would be released from her suffering and receive her reward. In her life she was always good and kind, so self-forgetful and thoughtful of others. By her kindness she made friends of multitudes whose hearts will be saddened by her death but who will rejoice with her in the reward to which she has gone. At her request a short service was held at the home of Mr. A.H. Lane at 2 o'clock Sunday p.m., July 30, 1905, conducted by the pastor of the Methodist church, Rev. Hardy A. Ingham. The interment took place at the Center Chapel burial ground.
