WOMAN KILLED WHEN CAR HITS LOADED TRUCK

Car Crashes in Blinding Rain Early Saturday Morning

Mrs. Helen Stong McNabb, 35, formerly of Mt. Zion but more recently of Des Moines, was instantly killed, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stutsman of Sigourney were seriously wounded in an automobile accident, two miles east of Nevada, Iowa, early Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Stutsman, son-in-law and daughter of Van Buren County Supervisor and Mrs. C.W. Gilbert of Kilbourne, are in the hospital at Nevada suffering from their injuries, the extent of which can hardly be determined at this time.

Mr. Stutsman, driver of the car, suffered a broken leg at the knee, and Mrs. Stutsman has a broken arm and bruises about the face.

The accident happened when the Stutsman car crashed into a large truck, alleged to have been parked on Highway No. 30 during a heavy rainstorm. The driver reported that he and his assistant were repairing a flat tire. They were held by authorities for investigation.

Mrs. McNabb, the daughter of the late Dr. Jess Stong and Wilda Barker Stong, formerly of Mt. Zion, is survived by her husband Lyle McNabb of Des Moines, her mother and one brother, Deane both of whom are now in Hawaii. Funeral services were held in Des Moines, Tuesday afternoon.

Supervisor Gilbert went to Nevada Wednesday to be with his daughter and her husband. Mr. Stutsman's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Carl Stutsman of Burlington are in the hospital assisting in the care of patients.
