Marlene Ann Rider, 78, of Farmington, IA, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at The Keosauqua Health Care Center, in Keosauqua, IA.

Born August 14, 1937, in Gladstone, IL, the daughter of Lawrence A. and Bessie (Sells) Lox. She married Wayne Riggle, they later divorced. She married Jack Heinrich, they later divorced. On December 13, 1962, she married Edmond “Sonny” Rider. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1994.

Survivors include her five daughters; Dixie (Ed) Wilkerson of Danville, IA, Debby (Tom) Moss of Fort Madison, IA, Terri (Kirt) Mercer of Keosauqua, IA, Cindy (Jeff) Goodwin of Iowa City, IA, and Lori (Gerry) Lowry of Iowa City, IA, one son, Rod (Alicia) Rider of Farmington, IA, two brothers; Randall Lox of Glassford, IL, and Dick Lox of Warsaw, IL, one sister, Connie Dillon of LaHabre, CA, stepmother; Virginia Lox of Gladstone, IL, 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sonny, one son and one sister. Marlene attended Gladstone High School. She was a member of the Croton Community Club and the Bunco Club. She attended the Farmington United Methodist Church. She had a passion for yard sales, forever stopping at them for treasures. She and her daughters were able to take trips and Marlene would always tell them, “Girls let's go make some memories.” Marlene worked at the Gambles Store in Farmington and Pioneer Seed for 22 years. She was a greeter at the Hofbauer Funeral Home and the Schmitz-Lunk Funeral Home in Farmington for over 20 years. She worked for Bridgeway providing special services for individuals and operated the Farmington Plant Farm with her husband Sonny. Marlene will always be remembered for her loving smile, her ability to lighten up a room, her kindness and her loving heart. She had the ability to talk to anybody about anything and never met a person she couldn't make smile. Marlene will forever be known as the cookie jar lady because of her vast collection. She was always eager to invite people in her home to view them and her large Coca Cola collection. She loved to garden, loved all flowers and loved to sit in the sun. She had many close personal friends, but her biggest joy was her large family. Marlene loved to cook, host holiday dinners, loved giving Christmas gifts to all that attended and loved watching them smile as they opened their gifts.

Friends may call after noon on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington, IA, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington, IA, with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial to follow at the Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington, IA.
