GEO. W. MINEAR.

George W., son of Enoch and Mary Ann Minear, was born at St. George, in what is now Tucker county, West Virginia, June 23rd, 1836. He was the fifth of a family of ten children, three of whom are still living. He grew to manhood in one of the earliest built houses in that community. His father's house was home, school-building and church. As soon as he was twenty-one George left home and worked and traveled. He first visited Iowa and Van Buren county in 1859, we believe. In 1863, he was joined in marriage with Miss Emma Pearson of Keosauqua. To this union were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy. Sister Minear passed to the better world, January 25, 1890. Their home was always a religious home. The preacher always found a welcome there. Brother Minear was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church when but a boy. He has held official position in the church for nearly, if not quite, fifty years. He always found time for family worship and for the religious and business work of the church. He was always interested in education and in every way was a public spirited man, promoting with his influence and means every object which he believed to be for the public good. He was a hard worker and good manager in his farm work. After a brief illness he passed peacefully away on June 20, 1905, being 68 years, 11 months and 27 days old. He will be greatly missed in the home, the church and the community. Funeral services were held at the Kilbourne M.E. church, conducted by a former pastor Rev. H.F. Gilbert, assisted by the present pastor Rev. A.J. Goode. Interment was made in the Kilbourne cemetery where his remains lie by the side of his wife. He rests in peace in his death as he was always strong in faith in his life.
