Obituary of Augustus Crane, Sr.

Augustus Crane, son of Augustus and Mary A. Crane, was born April 12, 1848, near Marietta, Ohio, and departed this life at his home near Kilbourne, Iowa, Sunday evening, November 6th, aged 79 years, 6 months and 24 days. At an early age he came to Iowa with his parents who settled on the farm on which he spent most of his life, except a a few years when Boise, Idaho, where in the fall of 1882 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Emma Obenchain Healey who preceded him in death twenty-seven years. To this union five children were born: Gus, Jr., of Douds, Iowa; Isaac Newton, now of Three Forks, Montana; Mary Maud and Iowa, both of whom died at an early age; George Sherman who was living at home with his father when he passed beyond. He is also survived by two step-sons and one step-daughter, all residing out west.

One sister Mrs. Lydia Dunn of Oklahoma and one brother Charles B. of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, are left with a number of other relatives and numerous friends to mourn the loss of a kind neighbor and true friend. Although he was privileged to an unusual number of years here it is with saddened hearts that we gather to take farewell of one whom we love. One who has endeared our hearts of the community through many acts of kindness.

Nobly thy course is run-
Splendor is round it;
Bravely thy fight is won
Victory crowned it.
In the warfare of heaven
Grown old and hoary,
Thou art like the summer sun,
Shrouded in glory.

We wish to thank the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted in the care of our father. Also those who expressed sympathy thru flowers.
